Update on the Non Update

Well, Thursday has come and long gone and there has still not been and update at BlogRolling HQ. I'm not sure when they'll be releasing the Beta version of BlogRolling 2.0, but I'm getting quite anxious. I assume they are as well... and perhaps inundated with questions about it's release. I chose to not be one of those people and am just waiting. And waiting...

As a heads up, I'm not sure what we'll all have to do when this is released. I'm not sure even what will happen with the current versions of our beloved BlogRoll. Just in case, I have saved an html version of it and if all else fails the posts on this site contain everything that has gone through here over the course it it's existance. I may take it apon myself some time to collect them all, just to see the total number if nothing else.

Anyway, it's very likely we'll all have to reinstall the code on our blogs. As soon as I get it, if that is what happens, I'll be sure to let you all know that it's there and what we have to do, if anything.

Remember though, it'll be a Beta release. Things may not be perfect... but then again, what is?

BlogRolling 2.0 Thursday?

So, just on the heels of my last post comes an update from BlogRolling HQ:
Whither Blogrolling 2.0?

Thursday is a big day at Blogrolling HQ. Thursday marks the end of our second development cycle (or “sprint” for the Agilists out there).

If everything looks good, we will quickly be in a position to launch a beta of Blogrolling 2.0 fairly quickly. If not, we might need one more cycle of iteration to get it ready for limited public use.

The team is doing awesome work and I’m really looking forward to being able to share it with you. You can count on another update sometime on Thursday.

Anyone else excited?

Recruitment Post

To anyone who is not yet part of this collection of ours, join us. Post a comment to let me know that you're out there and you're in(when the list is up and running). The only qualifiers (if that's what you want to call it) is that you(r blog is) are in Newfoundland and Labrador or are(is) from Newfoundland and Labrador... as noted above.

To those already in the list, let any friends or family who may not know this place exist in on the secret. There's hundreds missing from here I'm sure.

To those who were part of this list before and want back in, post a comment and voila; it'll happen.

To everyone; Have a great day!

NL's SpicyPage

In effort to promote this blog, your blogs and our province in general I joined a new (to me) service called "SpiceyPage". I started playing around in there today and realized that you can create groups as well as get people to vote on your site... so I went ahead and did that. If you're interested in that kind of thing, join me eh!

To-Do List

As I anxiously await BlogRolling 2.0 to be released (and yes, they are only working on that version so it seems and not fixing the original version) I guess I should keep track of my To-Do List for the blog.... and I guess fill you folks in as well... should you be checking in.
  • Roll Cleanup, removing inactive and broken link blogs, which I'll have to wait until the release of the new system before I can do.
  • Designate and arrange space(s) for the 'Blog of the Week' initiative.
  • Announce details of an upcoming contest which I hope to turn into a fairly regular thing.
  • Continue promoting this blog in hopes it helps get traffic to your blog.
  • Create buttons for blog and roll promotion on other peoples blogs.
  • And continue to take all your suggestions on what else we can do around these parts!
I'll keep everyone posted on both the progress of the above list and the status of BlogRolling 2, or if you can't wait for my updates on that you could always refer to here:

Until next time, I'm outta here. As you can see, I've got work to do!

YES WE HAVE!

While we wait for the roll to come back and the new initiatives to kick in, I wanted to share this wonderful video with you all. It was created as a celebration of Newfoundland & Labrador's new HAVE status within Canada! Check it out!

Not so much an Update

Well, there was another update regarding the status of Blogrolling, but unfortunately there wasn't much said. What I do gather from things is that we will not be able to do much until version 2 is released. I guess they'll scrap any development on V1 and concentrate fully on the upgrade. I assume this is a smart thing to do. Let's all hope it comes back soon! I'm achin' to get our ideas on the go but I want to clean up the roll first. In the meantime, I'll keep you all posted on the progress.

Coming Soon - Blog of the Week!

Well, it's been over a week since BlogRolling has updated their status page. I've been checking daily, anxious to have the service back so that we can progress with our community here. In the meantime, while I have no new news to share with regards to it starting back up again, I wanted to let you in on what the plan is for the previously mentioned 'Blog of the Week'.

Each week (on a not yet determined day), one blog from the roll will be randomly selected and designated as the 'Blog of the Week'. With that prestigious title will come a few perks including (but perhaps not limited to) one post about blog (on the not yet determined day) that will feature information about the blog (like a mini review) and a link to the site. In addition to this post (which will be archived forever and listed on the right hand side) we will have a section here on this blog dedicated to the 'Blog of the Week'. In this block, I will be posting an 'Ad' for the site (which essentially will be a 125x125 clickable screenshot of the blog) and directly below it will be a RSS feed listing the latest entries for said blog. This will stay there for 1 week, until a new blog becomes the chosen one.

I should note as well that any of my blogs on the list will not be taking part in this promotion. I feel that doing that would be a conflict of interests and besides, writing a review of your own blog is not an easy task... so I'm not gonna do it. I should also note that once a blog is listed, it will not be eligible for the blog of the week for at least 1 year. We have tonnes of blogs to cover and I want to give as equal coverage to as many as possible. The whole purpose of this venture is provide more exposure the blogs on the roll and I definitely think that this is one way that could help that.

What'dya think?
