This list of over 200 blogs includes spaces from both people currently living in the province and also those from here but, now living away.Stephen Eli Harrishttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15836273559371621815noreply@blogger.comBlogger285125tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-21778518.post-86344823805508352712018-12-13T14:02:00.000-03:302019-11-07T16:52:22.234-03:30Still RollingEven though this is mainly a blog to help find other blogs, I wanted to post something in 2018, and this is not a post just for the sake of doing so either. It's to note that some work has been done around these parts over the past few weeks; new blogs were added, totally dead links removed, and some general cleanup has taken place. But really I wanted to post as a way to ensure any visitors stopping by know that this place still continues to roll on. More importantly, as you'd quickly see by browsing the BlogRoll below, there are many out there who are still blogging away, which is what gives reason to keep this thing alive in the first place.

The full database of blogs I've maintained over the years contains nearly 700 links. Yes, many of those are dead links now, but I'm always amazed about the number of sites I've enjoyed since launching in January 2006. There are still 500 accessible blogs linked on this page, albeit many have not been updated in several years. The really long timers I keep in the Not Recently Updated BlogRoll below, but I'm always checking to see if any pop to the top with a new update. I do move them to the main roll again when I see that happen. The main list itself has over 250 blogs, with most being updated within the last 6 months. The list order is constantly changing, driven solely by individual desires of each person who maintains each blog. I kind of love that. Every day is a new adventure as you check out who is posting what, and it's really great to see people return after being away for a long time - like me now, really. Who knows? Maybe this late 2018 post of mine will be seen by other dormant bloggers, and it will spark them to do their own updates. Could happen. I'll be sure to keep an eye on the list just in case, watching for them to pop to the top. In the meantime, there is plenty around here to keep me entertained... and actually, with that said, I'm off to browse the rolls right now. You get the idea - we're still here.

Blog on you bloggers, blog on!

OH! And if you're a blogger from Newfoundland and Labrador and your blog is somehow not on this list yet, please be sure to let me know!
Our province is not heavily populated after all, and with platforms like Facebook and Twitter having already taken over all things social media, it's pretty amazing to see so many still kicking around. There are nearly 500 blogs listed on this page, and sure, some have been dormant for years, but over half have been updated in the last year; many of those in the last month. The main blogroll below lists them by most recent update. Take a peak and you'll see several updated within the last 24 hours even - at any point of reading this post.

I wanted to give an update, to let visitors know that I have spent quite a bit of time over the past few months cleaning things up around these parts. Several new additions were added, and several dead links removed, plus other big tweaks and adjustments to the rolls below. The story of the day, however, is that I have finally created the two new categories I've been wanting to create for seemingly forever now: FOOD / COOKING and HEALTH / FAMILY. There was such a large number of blogs with these themes in the other categories, I just had to split them out, and I'm glad it's finally done. Check out the new category mini rolls below, and they have their own sections as well if you prefer.

Visiting every blog in the list, and re-categorizing many of them, was quite time consuming, but I gotta say; what a ride! So, so, many awesome blogs out there, some of which have been listed here for a long time. Others are brand new, and this is something I find truly inspiring. New bloggers continue to be born every day it seems, giving me hope that this community will remain alive and fresh for many years to come.

To the bloggers both new and old: keep on bloggin' on!
I had been blogging on my own personal site for several months by that time, and was inspired by the number of other local bloggers out there. What started as just a personal collection of blog links, turned into this site, intended to not only promote all those bloggers, but also the corner of the planet in which I live, and love a lot: Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada.

There's been many ups and downs throughout the last decade, with some years having contests and 'Blog of the Week's', and other years being very quiet, especially in the later years. The site has gone through numerous renditions and expansions, adapting to new online technologies along the way, and sometimes being forced to. The original 'Blogroll' was an awesome service provided by a company/website simply called Blogrolling. This service allowed bloggers to add a simple script to their own sites which displayed the list of NL bloggers, sorted by last update (much like we have here now). When that service went offline, I was forced to either let everything crumble, or rebuild. Obviously I rebuilt - I couldn't just let it die - and thankfully Blogger added a widget which sorts blogs by last update - albeit, not one others could also display. Being a prime opportunity to expand, I also took this time to add all the categories to the site as well, an addition I think was worth it. A lot of work has gone into these pages over the years, but none of it was a chore to me. I love this resource, and I hope others get something from it too.

I'll always consider blogging to be the original social media, here before Facebook and Twitter became the normal way to share thoughts on the internet, and comment on other peoples thoughts. Many people still continue to blog to this day, evidenced by the hundreds of active links found below. The dormant ones often rise again too, as past bloggers decide to dust things off and write a post, much like this one today for me. It being a milestone of 10 years since this thing was created, how could I not write a post, right?

There are other motivations for writing this today though, as I added about 20 new blogs over the past few days, each in their own categories and applicable rolls. Some cleanup of dead links and dormant blogs took place too, but the main thing to note here is the newly added blogs, which I always enjoy doing. New bloggers are born every day, and I love it. Here's to another 10 years of collecting and sharing the many blogs local to Newfoundland and Labrador!
It's been forever since this place has been updated; not at all in 2014 in fact. Shocking behaviour I know, but I didn't go through all of this year without a post, so that's something right? And it wasn't just an update of blogs neither. There are a few other changes around these parts as well, like a slight change to the layout, moving the blogrolls from the sidebars, to what I think is an easier viewing place below. There are some other changes throughout all the pages, which I won't bore you with, and there are some more updates on the way soon. No really, I still want to create a couple more categories - a Family/ Health one, and also a Food one perhaps. We'll get to that later, though...

Quite a few new blogs were waiting to be added this last several months, and I very much apologize for the wait. All those waiting have been added to their applicable rolls now though, and here they are listed below. Be sure to go say hello, and welcome them aboard!

There weren't any awards handed out and there were no Blog of the Week additions - both of which we hope to resuscitate in 2014. What we have been able to do this year however, is keep on top of new additions to our beloved community. The list of blogs is the most important part afterall. So, stay tuned for more updates on 2014, and in the mean time check out the fall additions below. Be sure to say hello!
With a new season here, I figured it was time to do some cleaning around these parts while I had a couple hours to do so. I spent time rearranging where some of the blogs were listed in the rolls on this page today, but that isn't the main reason for this post. The most important thing I did today was add 17 news blogs to the network, and that makes me smile. I'm always a happy camper when I get to add new blogs. I have to say that it never ceases to amaze me to find out that there are more out there. I keep on thinking I will come to the end of the NL blogs, but it never happens... and it hope it never does. But, that's enough babbling out of me for now. I thin it's time for ya'll go check out the newbies, and be sure to say hello!
Without the nominations flowing in as I hoped they would, the job of getting everything ready is considerably more difficult. I've decided to focus on what I can take care of around these parts over the year, and then get back to this whole award thing at the end of 2013.

PLEASE NOTE that nominations will remain open all year, however. You can leave you choices in any of the applicable threads or email them to nlblogroll @ gmail.com.
Having said that, it is likely that things will be postponed slightly, mostly due to the lack of nominations that have come in thus far. No, I'm not going to blame it on totally on the community, as the lack of available time to promote the nomination phase hasn't been good for getting things rolling. The past month has flown by for me and I don't really see things slowing down in the coming days or weeks. With that said though, Nominations will remain open for as long as needed. Please head on over to the Blogger's Choice Awards Section for more information and to nominate your favourite NL Blogs today.
The 2012 NL Blogger's Choice Awards are rapidly approaching, and this year's awards session will start a little differently than last. This year we're going to begin with a nomination period whereby people who visit the BlogRoll (be they friends, family or strangers) get to choose who will be put up for vote. The final choices for each category will then be carefully selected based on many elements; design, content, frequency of posting, etc. That part is much like last year.

Nominating a blog is pretty simple stuff. All anyone has to do is GO TO THIS PAGE HERE and post a reply with the URL you wish to nominate (or feel free to send a email to nlblogroll @ gmail.com). It's as easy as that.

As posted on that link, there are three rules for submissions:

1) The nomination must be a current member of the NL BlogRoll, in either of the categories.

2) We are asking that you do NOT nominate your own blog, as that sort of defeats the purpose of nominations. We strongly encourage you to convince someone else to nominate you, but just not doing so yourselves.

3) No Anonymous Nominations will be accepted, but if you'd rather not log in to submit your choice, then please email us at nlblogroll @ gmail.com.

We'll be running this nomination period for approximately one month, bringing us to mid December with the actual awards session coming in January 2013.

Now, head on over to the hub page for the NL Blogger's Choice Awards and get nominating!Stephen Eli Harrishttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15836273559371621815noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-21778518.post-44194033321313986572012-11-03T15:24:00.002-02:302012-11-03T15:24:53.636-02:30A Few Fall AdditionsBelow are more lovely additions to the site, and these few will likely be the last new ones for the year. With only 2 months left to 2012 (as hard as that is to believe), I can't see many more requests to join coming in. Besides, I'll be focusing on the NL Blogger's Choice Awards which will be coming soon and, as of this update, everyone who is currently listed will have a chance to be a part of it... but I won't talk about that any more yet. For now, focus on the newbies below and go check them out! I'll get the the 2012 awards session soon enough...
In the coming weeks we'll be discussing and initiating this years awards, but I wanted to send out this little reminder of the current winners before we get intto that. Go on now, have a gawk!

The Blog of the Week for August 19th to the 25th, 2012 is 'I code by the sea'; a blog from the mind of Jamie Goodyear, who is a software developer in St. John's. Jamie shares his experiences as an open source developer living in the province via this blog, which I have to mention, has a lovely simple title I really like... Especially when you pair it with a 2nd blog of his entitled 'I also make Cookies'.

It's not often that I feature two blogs in one blog of the week but, with this tandem of blogs, I had to make an exception. Jamie has two great, yet vastly different blogs here, which he does tie nicely together with the thought, "Recipes are just another kind of coding.". Makes sense to me. These are both great additions to the community here folks, so please check them out!
The reason being is that I decided to focus attentions this week to new blog additions. With so many email requests having built up, this is in fact long overdue. In a blog community as large as this one currently is, it's hard to imagine there are more blogs out there that haven't been listed yet... but there are. The 42 new additions in this update prove that, and this after a year of already heavy adding. I'm quite impressed.

The Blog of the Week for August 5th to the 11th, 2012 is 'Twig'; a blog brought to us by the English Language Research Centre at Memorial University, which discusses the English language in our great province. Inspired by the Dictionary of Newfoundland and Labrador, blog creator Jenny Higgins sets out to explore the vocabulary of NL and examine the research that went into the creation of the internationally acclaimed dictionary; one the most well known publications to come out of the province. The blog appears to have it's own community of people contributing to it's success, and it's certainly an incredible addition to the broader blog community here, so please take some time to check it out. It will surely not disappoint!
The Blog of the Week for July 29th to August 4th, 2012 is 'BriscoPhoto'. For some, photography and blogging go hand in hand, and I have to agree that it is a perfect way to get your photos out there for the world to see and comment on. This particular blog has been created to showcase the street photography of Brian Scott, who sets out to document life in St. John's (among other places) using his keen eye. With many other local photographers focusing on the rugged beauty of the landscapes in this wonderful province, Brian provides something equally beautiful, but perhaps a bit more unique. In the case of photography and photo blogs however, seeing is believing, so head on over to check things out!
The Blog of the Week for July 22nd to the 28th, 2012 is 'Corner Brook Running Club'. With the Tely 10 having taken place today, I figured it would be pertinent to focus on a related blog this week. Running and Jogging seems to have taken off in this province over the past few years, and it apparently isn't localized to the capitol city only, evident with this weeks featured selection. The CB Running Club blog's main purpose is to post any recent information on the club, which itself exists to 'promote running for fun, fitness and competition in the city and surrounding area'. It certainly does a great job with that! With lots of information found inside, frequent postings and a great network for any related resources, this site is another great addition to the blogging fitness fanatics in the province. Check it out!
The Blog of the Week for July 15th to the 21st, 2012 is 'Nain Bay'. There are very few blogs listed within our community here that come from, or focus on, any aspect of the 'Big Land'. When coming across this week's selection while browsing over the past few days, I knew it had to be featured for that very reason. Labrador does not receive much focus in discussions of our province after all, especially the far north regions of the vast land. The blogger of this space provides great insight into living in such a place, and what's most interesting to me is that he also provides an outside perspective into Nain Bay, as he is originally from Australia. There is a large variety of posts contained within this wonderful web log; discussions ranging from political rants to random lifestyle items. It's definitely one which should be visited whenever the chance is available. How about now? Head on over!
The Blog of the Week for July 8th to the 14th, 2012 is 'Root Cellars Rock!'. This blog is the online presence for an extremely valuable provincial project hosted by the Food Security Network of Newfoundland Labrador. The blog itself is a space for the sharing of local food knowledge and for helping provide access to learning resources. There is certainly a large amount of information contained within, which could keep any interested party informed and entertained for days. It also provides individuals with the ability to discuss their own idea's and resources, as if there's one thing that this blog does, it is facilitate discussion. Bravo to the The Root Cellars Rock! Advisory Committee and their passion for the local food system. Without them, we would probably not have such a wonderful addition to the blogosphere, which of course you should be off visiting now. Click the pic and away you go!

The Blog of the Week for July 1st to the 7th, 2012 is 'Zombies Wearing Helmets'. It has to be admitted that at least half the reason why this blog was selected this week was due to the title, which blogger Leah says is because she "adores those naughty little munchers so gosh darn much". Don't get the wrong idea though; this blog doesn't solely revolve around Zombies. It actually doesn't surrender itself to any single meme and stands as a true Mixed Bag of a blog. It does tend to lean towards craft and entertainment items, however, which the author writes enthusiastically about frequently. This space is a lovely little addition to our community here and one well worth checking out. Get on that now, won't ya!
The Blog of the Week for June 24th to the 30th, 2012 is 'Just a Foodie'; a lovely blog all about the delicious food found in this great province. The author of the site doesn't claim to be a master chef, but does insist that their experience making food for their family for over 20 years gives them the ability and expeirence to critique (which I totally agree with). The blog is "dedicated to the places that showcase good, unpretentiousness, comfort or soul food" and features detailed write ups of local restaurants and foodie loving events. It's a wonderful space, one to help you discover delightful places to check out if in the mood for dining. So, what are you waiting for? Head on over and get your taste buds working!
The Blog of the Week for June 17th to the 23rd, 2012 is 'NL Stuff'. This mixed bag of a blog is chalked full of a vast variety of delightful articles, all focusing on, well, NL Stuff. The newspaper format design of the site gives the reader an overview of the assortment of posts present, which in turn gives those readers easy access to any story they wish to peruse. The shear number of different stories revolving around community events, politics, entertainment and anything in between makes this a place that visitors can often visit to find new and interesting Newfoundland and Labrador related items. Why not start your frequent visiting today. Head on over and check it out!
The Blog of the Week for June 10th to the 16th, 2012 is 'Million Dollar Journey'. Investing, economics and all things related are hot topics throughout the entirety of the world these days, and with that being the case, selecting a blog for this week which focuses on such things just made sense. The site is jam packed with articles to help educate the masses on personal finance and investing, and sprinkled throughout are articles of personal investment strategies from the authors. It's a highly informative blog on a topic that many people are increasingly becoming more interested in, now that the daily news cycle is heavily focusing on the economies of the world. If you're looking for a great investment, I suggest it be some of your time into this blog. Check it out!
The Blog of the Week for June 3rd to the 9th, 2012 is 'Candice Does The World'; a personal journal style of blog with a specific focus on travel. It's hard to ignore the dazzling header as you enter this wonderful blog, but when you get past that, you are treated with delightful article after article from the perspective of a "20-something female dangling precariously on the edge of eastern Canada". The entries mostly relate to Cadince's travels and even include reviews of hotels and such. It's another great example of the wonderful talent found within this blogroll, and is a blog well worth checking out. Right now would be a good time for you to do that, so click the pic and off you go!
The Blog of the Week for May 27th to June 2nd, 2012 is 'Occupy Newfoundland and Labrador'. Not only has this blog been selected as a way to show solidarity for the cause, but also because this is one heck of a blog. It's highly informative, frequently updated and a tremendous online community for this local chapter of a worldwide cause. Occupy NL made national headlines recently for being one of (if not, the) last camp to be evicted after lasting a long cold winter. Have no fear though, the movement is not dead, as this blog will clearly show. With general information on the movement, workshops, resources, media and a bevy of other items found within, this is one place you could spend a lot of time, and perhaps learn how you could help while you're there. So head on over and check it out!
