The future of the BlogRoll

While we wait for the Blogroll to be functional again, I would like to open things up for discussion on how to improve on what we have going here. It's an interesting community that we've built and I think there are ways we could further reach out to one another.

One thing that I have in mind is to create a 'Blog of the Week' column on this site. Before the space was only used to discuss the comings and goings of blogs on the roll. I feel I should at least spend some time discussing those who stick around. I'm not exactly sure what this column will entail, but it's an idea and something that'll blossom on it's own I'm sure. In the meantime, if you have any suggestions, please feel free to post a comment.

That goes for any ideas you have on how we can expand. Let me know what you think!

BR Update

It's been a week or so since BlogRolling was hacked causing them to have to shut down their service. Since then the team at BR has been working feverishly to get things back in order. According to yesterdays update, they still have not completed that and say it could take a couple of weeks.

Here's an excerpt from the update:

Behind the scenes, we’ve got a couple of parallel projects underway.

a) bringing back affected services safely and responsibly. We want to ensure that your data is safe, so we’re doing an extensive review of the affected services, making slight adjustments here and there, and restoring individual services. This won’t be a quick process, so don’t expect to see full functionality restored in the next few days. It may be up to a few weeks before basic services are fully restored. I realize how much this sucks, but we want to make sure that we don’t affect the overall security of the system and the basic dependability of core roll serving. Like I said earlier, we’re committed to keeping the lights on, but they will be dimmed for a little while.

The "B" of that update is that they are also working on an updated version of the software... which is interesting and exciting enough, but I just would like the old service back for now. It's missed... and I'm sure it is by many people.

Blogrolling Down

Just wanted to let everyone know that the Blogrolling software is down. According to the site they are using for updates, the blogs are listing but they will not be updated.

I can't edit or do anything with the roll until they get that resolved... just as a heads up.
